My formal training is in history and physiology. I became seriously interested in ceramics in 1970 when I began instruction at the Baldwin Pottery Studio in New York City. Over the years I continued to pursue this avocation through classes, reading, workshops, museum and gallery viewings, and visits to artists in their studios. In 1990 my avocation became my vocation, and I began formal ceramic classes at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona. In 1998 I established a studio in Tempe where I create functional and sculptural ceramics.
Most of the works here were made in the past 12 months. However, I use sketches I have made or photographs my husband has taken of places we have visited over the past 15 years. Some of the plates are meant to convey the feeling of a specific place while others represent impressions of towns and experiences we have had.
All my plates and platters are food safe.
Sharon’s work will be here for the next three months, on the second floor of Building 1. Come enjoy it! Her work is displayed at: http://sarmann.com/
