COM-P Arts Committee Welcomes Pat Scheurich!

The Arts Committee (Al B, Keven S, Brigitte J-M, and Jacque D.) is pleased to call your attention to the new art display on campus and to thank Pat Scheurich for sharing her beautiful images with us.  Pat’s works are located on ABC’s 4th Floor, in the Library and Library Annex, in the lobby on the 2nd floor of Bldg 1, in Bldg 1’s stairway, and in the hallway near Dr. Flynn’s office.  Pat’s work is available for purchase; she can be contacted through the library.  We can enjoy her work through the middle of December.

Pat Scheurich-Artist Statement

The key influences of my work are all around me.  My daily life provides the images that I need to fuel my imagination.  All the colors around me combine in exciting ways and I want to put those combinations down on paper and canvas.  Other influences are the things I read.  I have always been interested in civilization from its beginnings until now.  Ancient ruins, old alphabets, illuminated manuscripts, botanical drawings — these are other influences.

My vision is to put down on paper or canvas my memories of what I see every day.  My goal is to give people pleasure in the relationships between the simple and complex.  I hope the viewer will see a relationship between things that is unique.

Many cultures celebrate similar shapes and designs.  I like to use some of these motifs in my collages in the form of printed collage papers from around the globe, handmade stamps and found materials.  I use gold leaf to provide an inner light to some of the forms.  I draw connections between the natural world and the human need to express that bond.  My hope is that the viewer will pause a moment to wonder about how the work was created and consider how many cultures are represented in the pieces.
